The Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers (ASSC) chief executive Fiona Campbell and Scottish Hospitality Group director Stephen Montgomery visited this week to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the sector. Ms Campbell said Shetland was in a “wonderful situation” offering “enormous opportunity” but cautioned that this “has to be managed”. Ms Campbell acknowledged the housing shortage facing the isles - including for tourists, workers and long-term accommodation forresidents. She said the self-catering sector was worth £25 million for the Shetland economy and £1 billion in Scotland. “I found the meeting incredibly positive, and I have high hopes of working in partnership with her,” Ms Campbell said.
