The Police Command in Rivers has initiated Operation Velvet to enforce traffic regulations and stem road accidents in the state. Agabe said the initiative followed growing disregard for traffic regulations, which had resulted in gridlock, obstruction of traffic flow and avoidable risks to road users. Adepoju urged motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle operators, motorcyclists and other road users to obey traffic laws and cooperate with police personnel. He warned road users against acts capable of causing traffic obstruction or endangering the lives of other motorists and pedestrians. Adepoju reaffirmed the command’s commitment to implementing Operation Velvet lawfully to promote safer roads, free-flowing traffic and effective policing.
