Steven Ford, 50, assaulted an individual in the town on July 11 last year.
He pleaded guilty to racially or religiously-aggravated common assault or beating at Cheltenham Magistrates Court on Friday, August 7.
Ford, of Echo Lane, Stinchcombe, was given a 12-month community order and was also ordered to pay £100 in compensation.
He must also attend rehabilitation appointments or participate in any required rehabilitation activity for up to 10 days.
No order was made for costs due to Ford’s limited means.
