Pieter Ferreira, affectionately known around the globe as “Mr Bubbles,” has spent over four decades on a relentless, passionate quest to capture the perfect bubble in a glass of Cap Classique. On 7 September, the international wine community will gather in London as the prestigious International Wine Challenge (IWC) presents Ferreira with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Yet, true to his humble spirit, the master winemaker insists the real award belongs to the entire Cap Classique category. Cap Classique made under his leadership at Graham Beck was served at Nelson Mandela’s historic 1994 presidential inauguration and at Barack Obama’s 2008 election celebration. Alongside his wife, Ann, he has embarked on a new boutique venture, Pieter Ferreira Cap Classique.
