Three further fires in the New Forest have been caused by a barbecue and campfires amid the ongoing heathland blaze that has forced the closure of the A31. Forestry England (FE) slammed the “extremely dangerous” actions of those responsible for the incidents, which come as the fifth heatwave of the summer takes its toll. Abandoned campfires were found to have caused two of the small blazes discovered by rangers yesterday (Tuesday). Rangers have been assisting firefighters in battling the ongoing New Forest heath blaze off the A31 near Ringwood (picture: Forestry England)This morning, they then attended an incident in which use of a barbecue on the Forest had started a fire. FE currently has a number of car parks closed as it continues assisting firefighters in battling the heathland blaze off the A31, near Ringwood.
