Officers said fraudsters are targeting people over the phone, often posing as police officers, bank workers or representatives of other trusted organisations.
Victims may be told their bank account has been compromised, that they have been a victim of crime, or that money must be moved immediately to protect it.
People who receive a suspicious call from someone claiming to be from the police or their bank should end the call immediately.
They should wait several minutes before using the same phone again, or use another phone line, before contacting the organisation through a trusted number.
Suspected fraud can be reported online at reportfraud.police.uk, or by calling police on 101.
