Responding to the uproar about her comments, Curtis addressed it head-on Tuesday in an Instagram post, alongside a behind-the-scenes photo of her, Zooey Deschanel and the late Rob Reiner. Curtis starred sporadically throughout the seven-season series as Joan Day opposite Reiner as the divorced parents of Deschanel’s character Jess. Curtis explained that performing in front of a studio audience is “almost like doing a play where you get immediate feedback.” Whereas with New Girl, “there’s absolutely no feedback, as you’re trying to do comedy in a vacuum, like a comedy feature,” she noted.
