The Central Consumer Protection Authority has slapped penalties totalling roughly Rs 1.12 crore on 47 e-commerce platforms, Verma told the House. The regulatory backbone for all this — the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 — was notified under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, specifically to rein in unfair trade practices and protect consumers navigating the country's booming online retail sector.
