NET Web DeskSilchar, Aug 12: Temporary staff members of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar have intensified their protest by staging a hunger strike, demanding the regularisation of their employment.
The agitation, led by the NIT Workers’ Union, entered its third day on Wednesday with 54 muster roll workers participating.
Union representatives stated that the strike is rooted in a Gauhati High Court directive, which ordered NIT Silchar to regularise the services of muster roll employees and extend to them the same benefits as permanent staff.
The workers emphasized that their demand is not only for job security but also for access to facilities and rights that permanent employees enjoy.
The union has vowed to continue the protest until the institute complies with the High Court’s directive.
