Sharon Graham has been re-elected as general secretary of the Unite union, entering her second period of office. Graham received 68,694 out of a total of 100,089 votes cast, while her competing candidate Simon Dubbins received 31,130. In recent months she has played a leading role in supporting Birmingham’s striking bin workers in their long-running industrial dispute. Unite members in Birmingham claim they are losing up to £8,000 per year thanks to contract changes being introduced by Birmingham City Council. Unite will be at the forefront of a stronger collective rooted in the working class.”
