By PTI Published Date - 12 August 2026, 06:50 PMLucknow: The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to two suspected Popular Front of India (PFI) members booked under the UAPA, observing that their prolonged incarceration and the slow pace of trial infringed upon their fundamental right to speedy trial under Article 21 of the Constitution. It observed that 95 dates had been fixed for examination of prosecution witnesses, while only 11 had completed their examination and five had been cross-examined. The high court had on December 7, 2022, directed the trial court to conclude the proceedings expeditiously, preferably within a year. In January 2024, it directed the prosecution witnesses to record their statements.
