The battle for the Minnesota Vikings' starting quarterback position in 2026 between Kyler Murray and JJ McCarthy didn't last long. The Vikings named Murray the starter before the preseason even kicks off, effectively kicking McCarthy to the curb. The decision to roll with Murray undoubtedly has long-term implications for McCarthy, whose future with the organization feels very much in jeopardy. And ESPN's Peter Schrager issued somewhat of a surprise warning of sorts for them if they plan on giving up on JJ McCarthy already. Last year was effectively McCarthy's first NFL season, and his first opportunity to actually play, and he dealt with injuries once again.
