In his letter to the SP, Kalai said reports received from local residents and affected vendors indicated that the enforcement operation had disrupted their lawful livelihood activities. He further urged the authorities to prevent any coercive or humiliating action against genuine vendors until an appropriate rehabilitation mechanism is established. He sought identification and verification of the genuine displaced vegetable vendors and urged the civic body to provide suitable alternative vending spaces or rehabilitation arrangements. Expressing concern over the possibility of avoidable communal tension, Kalai urged the authorities to take steps to restore public confidence and maintain social peace in the area. Kalai appealed for urgent action so that the grievances of the affected vendors could be addressed, their livelihoods restored and communal harmony preserved.
