Residents seeking answers about a theft from Hambden Volunteer Fire Department are not getting many answers, even those tax dollars are covering the losses. The arrangement means residents depend on a privately run nonprofit for emergency services while township officials say they do not oversee its finances. At an emergency meeting last week, trustees approved a $100,000 advance from a later payment after the department said it was necessary. Federal records show Hambden Volunteer Fire Department Inc. was awarded about $6.76 million in federal funding for the project. The federal and state station funding, township contract and two smaller state grants total about $9.6 million.
