Kenya has met the United States’ minimum fiscal transparency requirements, while neighbouring Tanzania has fallen short, according to the 2026 Fiscal Transparency Report released by the US Department of State. Kenya was among 73 governments that met the minimum requirements in the latest assessment, placing it alongside Uganda, Rwanda, South Africa, Ghana, Mauritius and other countries that passed the US test. Tanzania, however, was among 67 governments that did not meet the minimum requirements. Across East Africa, Uganda and Rwanda joined Kenya in meeting the minimum fiscal transparency requirements. Overall, the report found that 73 of the 140 governments and entities assessed met the minimum requirements, while 67 did not.
