A City of York Council spokesperson said a member of its waste collection crew was hurt by a needle that was sticking out of a bag in an overfilled bin. Recommended reading:The spokesperson added: "If you use needles or other sharps, please use our clinical and medical waste collection service to dispose of them safely. "Putting them in your household rubbish, even inside a bag, can put the people collecting your waste at risk of injury. "We're also asking you not to overfill your bins. "If the lid won't close properly, waste can become trapped or sharp items can push through bags, making collections more dangerous for our crews."
