Lendal Bridge in York will be shut to vehicles from 8pm tonight (Wednesday, August 12) until 6am tomorrow (Thursday, August 13) to allow essential road resurfacing to take place safely. The overnight closure follows works in March, when the bridge was closed for three days from St Leonard’s Place to Station Road - also for resurfacing work. Pedestrians and mobility aid users will still be able to cross the bridge, and business access will remain unaffected. Cyclists and vehicles will follow separate diversion routes, including Blake Street, Davygate, and Bridge Street for those heading toward the railway station, and Station Road, Queen Street, and Poppleton Road for other traffic. Bus services will continue but some routes will be diverted from 8pm while the bridge is closed to traffic.
