Turing, a Tokyo-based autonomous-driving startup, plans to open a U.S. office within the next year and is targeting a potential American stock listing within five years at a valuation of roughly $10 billion, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Chief Executive Issei Yamamoto said the U.S. office will initially concentrate on data collection and research and development.
"The U.S. is our next major target market after Japan," Yamamoto said, pointing to the large American presence of Japanese automakers as a key factor.
Instead of building cars or robotaxis, Turing focuses on developing the autonomous-driving software that powers them.
Yamamoto said the company plans to use funds from its latest financing round to purchase GPUs.
