Decision due on plans for new gypsy pitches

The application for land north of Girder Bridge, in Gay Street Lane, will be put to the planning committee on Tuesday (August 18).
If approved, hard-standing will be laid down for the static caravans, with space for the parking of two cars for each pitch, as well as a bike and bin store.
While acknowledging that the pitches would result in "a degree of change to the character and activity of the site", planning officers recommended the application for approval.
They included fears that the access from Gay Street Lane was "unsafe due to the narrow carriageway, blind bend beneath Girder Bridge".
Others were worried about the site regularly flooding and the potential for the situation being made worse by the installation of hard-standing.
