Miles Davis’ most beautiful work, according to Paul Weller: “It’s so controlled”Jazz is not a universally beloved genre in the modern musical age, but Miles Davis is an exception even for the most ardent of jazz sceptics.
A visionary and one of the greatest performers, songwriters, and musical oddities to ever walk the Earth, his extensive output has earned a place in the hearts of everybody from Jimi Hendrix to Paul Weller.
Much like Weller, in fact, Davis’ output rarely stuck to one sound for too long.
“I love Sketches of Spain, but I really love Milestones because it has got a really beautiful sound,” he shared.
So, Paul Weller himself might never have delved headfirst into the world of modal jazz during his own solo work, but Miles Davis and that groundbreaking 1958 LP still form a major influence for the songwriter nonetheless.
