Data obtained by the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) found a Newham family-of-four were living in temporary accommodation in Middlesbrough for over eight years.
Often this will be temporary accommodation to start with while a permanent home is found.
More widely, London's housing system is creating a postcode lottery for homeless families with some being offered temporary accommodation over 250 miles away while neighbours stay within 30 miles of their borough.
