A federal judge has granted the state of Oregon a temporary restraining order, legally prohibiting the Trump administration from deploying National Guard troops to Portland through at least October 18. Immergut, a Trump appointee, was assigned the case the day before the hearing, after Judge Michael Simon recused himself from the case. Simon, who was nominated for his position as a federal judge by former President Obama, is married to Oregon Representative Suzanne Bonamaci, a Democrat who has criticized Trump’s plan to send National Guard troops to Portland.
