Netflix has swooped for Fatmagül, snagging the iconic Turkish drama series for Latin America. Telenovelas originated in Latin America, but Turkey has also emerged as a production hotspot for the soapy melodramas, which typically run to dozens of episodes. Produced by Istanbul-based Ay Yapim, it originally aired on the Turkish Kanal D channel. Kanal D International, the broadcaster’s sales arm, has gone on to sell the show into over 150 countries, making it one of the series that helped establish Turkish drama internationally. “Following its outstanding international success, particularly across Latin America, the series is still attracting new audiences through global streaming platforms,” said Elif Tatoğlu, Director of Sales at Kanal D International.
