Shafaqna English- This year’s blistering European summer is affecting agriculture in Austria, a country not typically short of water. The heat has stunted the growth of crops, and cows are being brought down from dried-out Alpine pastures and sent to slaughter ahead of schedule, farmers say. Johann Fessl, a dairy farmer in northern Austria whose cattle graze on Alpine pastures at 1,300 meters above sea level during summer, said: “We had no precipitation for weeks, and we have never had such consistently high temperatures.”
