The Bill, introduced in the Lok Sabha on March 25 seeks to amend the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010 (FCRA).
The Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act regulates the acceptance and utilisation of foreign contributions by individuals, associations and companies in India.
Its stated objective includes ensuring that foreign contributions are not used in a manner detrimental to the national interest.
One of the major changes introduced by the 2010 law was that FCRA registration became time-bound, with certificates required to be renewed every five years.
The Bill proposes a comprehensive new framework for dealing with foreign contributions and assets created from such contributions when an organisation's FCRA registration ceases to remain valid.
