NET Web DeskAssam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that rehabilitation and repair work following the latest floods in Upper Assam could require more than Rs 1,000 crore.
A rapid relief assessment drive launched on August 9 has already surveyed over 8,000 families, estimating damages worth Rs 150 crore.
Sarma emphasized that the final assessment, expected in September, will likely confirm the need for over Rs 1,000 crore in rehabilitation spending.
Relief efforts have also included rebuilding 494 damaged Anganwadi centres with Rs 11.3 crore sanctioned for restoration, each centre receiving up to Rs 2.5 lakh.
The chief minister stressed the need to shift focus from the Brahmaputra to its tributaries, which have increasingly caused devastation.
