Robert Gilman, a former US Marine who was recently released from a Russian prison on humanitarian grounds, is seriously ill and needs further treatment, his lawyer Irina Brazhnikova, told TASS. According to the US leader, Russian President Vladimir Putin did not ask for anyone in exchange. Gilman was detained on January 19, 2022, at the Voronezh train station for a drunken brawl on a train. A separate criminal case was opened later after Gilman refused to comply with prison regulations and assaulted a corrections officer. In early July, court proceedings in the cases in Voronezh were suspended after Gilman was hospitalized for treatment.
