India is assessing the possible implications of the newly signed Mecca Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, particularly its impact on national security, regional peace and stability. The three countries signed the agreement in Mecca on August 7, 2026, amid continuing conflict and heightened tensions in West Asia involving Iran, Israel and the US. Under the pact, an armed attack on any one of the three countries is to be treated as an attack on all three. India Eyes New PactJaiswal’s remarks signal a cautious approach from New Delhi rather than an immediate response to the agreement. The agreement builds on the longstanding defence relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, which was formally strengthened through a bilateral Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement signed in September 2025.
