The cause of a house fire Tuesday afternoon in downtown Nelson is still under investigation by fire officials after “heavy fire and smoke” fully involved a multi-unit residential building, damaging an adjacent four-plex. Prior to the arrival of NFRS, Nelson Police Department officers evacuated all of the tenants in the building. “The fire was quickly knocked down to the point that it no longer posed a threat to adjacent buildings,” he said. “As a result, damage was comparatively minor and tenants were able to return home later that evening,” he explained.
