Proposed changes to housing policy were agreed by Mid Suffolk District councillors, with a unanimous cabinet decision confirmed on Tuesday, August 11. Those with a local connection to a specific village, rather than just the district, will now receive higher priority, with properties then allotted according to their assessed level of housing need. Some of the concerns raised focused on families and support networks left behind when people in need of affordable housing were sent to unfamiliar areas. Individuals with urgent, critical or serious housing need will continue to take priority over someone with only a village connection. Care leavers under the age of 25, armed forces veterans and those fleeing domestic abuse will be exempt from the new local connection requirements altogether.
