Heat health alert for Herefordshire upgraded as temperatures set to soar
['Julia Baker']
Hereford Times | News
Although the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has already issued a yellow heat health warning for the county, this has since been upgraded to an amber warning for the West Midlands, which is set to come into force from 9am today (August 11).
The warning is set to remain in place until 9pm on August 14.
The agency warns that during this period, "significant" impacts are likely across the health and social care sectors due to high temperatures, including a rise in deaths, increased demand across the sector, and internal temperatures in care settings exceeding the recommended threshold.
The Met Office is forecasting a peak temperature of 34C in Hereford on Thursday.
Conditions are expected to cool slightly toward the end of the week, with temperatures of 27C predicted for Friday, 25C for Saturday, and 26C on Sunday.
