The nine-month-old capybara has now been missing for 20 weeks, after escaping from a temporary holding area at Marwell Zoo on March 17.
Tango was quickly found within the zoo grounds, but Samba managed to leave the site and has remained missing ever since.
The following day, Marwell Wildlife chief executive Laura Read spotted Samba in a thicket near the River Itchen, but the capybara disappeared into dense vegetation.
Since then, Marwell teams have followed up dozens of reports from members of the public.
More than 20 staff members took part in a coordinated search, looking for footprints, droppings and other signs of Samba.
