'High time supermarkets stopped adding donations to card payments' - Letter

I noticed he had a till receipt for shopping at his local Asda supermarket.
It was for very few items, including some milk and a ready meal, but also included a 50p donation to charity that he was completely unaware he had paid.
This amounted to a proportionately significant additional expense for someone on a fixed income and, like us all, already facing rising costs.
It's high time that supermarkets stopped adding so-called voluntary charitable donations to card payments at the checkout.
He's not opposed to charitable giving but on his own terms, knowing exactly where and to whom his donation is going.
