The facility, based at Pillgwenlly Millennium Centre, was officially unveiled on Saturday, August 8 in a ceremony led by the mayor of Newport and attended by council leaders, community members and funding partners. Plans to upgrade the pitch began in 2026, when the Pillgwenlly Millennium Centre launched a project to replace its well-used 3G facility. Board members of the Pillgwenlly Millennium Centre – Dr Abdul-Fatahi Abdulai, Saeed Adan and Gine Hayath – thanked trustees, staff and partners for helping to bring the upgrade to fruition. The Pillgwenlly Millennium Centre will manage bookings for teams and groups wishing to use the facility. The upgraded pitch is part of ongoing efforts to improve sports infrastructure and opportunities in the Pillgwenlly area.
