Charmaine Denny has become the new town clerk of Dorchester following Steve Newman’s departure after four years in the role. Charmaine comes into the role with a degree in Tourism Management and working in other areas of Dorset, including Weymouth Town Council as assistant clerk in 2019. “In 2019, I joined Weymouth Town Council as Assistant Town Clerk. Becoming Town Clerk at Dorchester felt like a natural progression in my career.” The office of Town Clerk in Dorchester dates back to 1629, and looking back through the long list of previous clerks, you see many well known Dorchester family names, including Colson, Symonds and Loder.
