Sen. Utke beats Rep. Wiener in close Republican primary in Senate District 5

WADENA — In the Republican primary race for Minnesota Senate District 5, Sen. Paul Utke of Park Rapids beat tough challenger Rep. Mike Wiener of Long Prairie, winning by 5,230 votes to 4,785, or about 52% to 48%.
The next closest was Osage Township, which gave 74 votes to Utke and 72 votes to Wiener.
ADVERTISEMENTHubbard County went for Utke roughly 2 to 1, but Todd County went for Rep. Wiener in a lopsided way – the vote in Long Prairie was 188 to 28, for example.
In Long Prairie Township the vote for Wiener was 141 to 20.
Wiener did best in Wadena Township, winning 112 votes to 64.
