Homes could be built on cherished Holcombe Brook open space to meet housing targets

A planning application has been submitted to Bury Council for the land off Oak Avenue in Holcombe Brook and proposes nine detached homes on a 0.26-hectare portion of the site.
The statement reads: "As a starting point, the Applicant fully recognises that the site is presently identified within the adopted Bury Unitary Development Plan as a Proposed Recreation Site.
Rather, it acknowledges them openly before explaining why, having regard to the Development Plan as a whole, together with material considerations, Permission in Principle should nevertheless be granted."
The statement says: "That housing land supply deficit is of considerable importance.
"The proposal responds positively to Bury's current housing land supply shortfall.
