Network Rail is investing £800,000 in essential works on the historic Brotherton Bridge and will also renew 1.4km of track at Sherburn in Elmet. The bridge, a steel structure dating back to 1903, continues to serve as a critical railway link. The work will take place during the bank holiday weekend from Saturday, August 29 to Monday, August 31, affecting services operated by Northern and TransPennine Express. A spokesperson for Northern and TransPennine Express said: "We’re working closely with Network Rail to keep customers moving while these upgrades take place. "The work will help improve the reliability of the railway for passengers in the future."
