The service launched in March 2026 and is designed to make food waste recycling easier for households while helping the district cut carbon emissions. Councillor Julie Kerr, Executive Councillor for Parks, Countryside, Waste and Street Scene, said: "We are incredibly pleased with the positive response to the weekly food waste collection service since its launch in March. "By diverting food waste from landfill and turning it into energy and fertiliser, we are supporting a more sustainable future for Huntingdonshire. Since its introduction, more than 1,000 tonnes of food waste have been collected—an average of 20 tonnes per day. This waste has been processed through anaerobic digestion, turning it into renewable energy and fertiliser instead of sending it to landfill.
