In June, new parking charges came into effect around Swindon, agreed in the annual budget under the last Labour administration. But now, the Leader of Swindon Borough Council, Councillor Gary Sumner, said the council are looking at new ways to make parking more affordable. "[The plan for 30 minute free parking] is still with the Cabinet Member, and he is talking to officers about what we can do and where we can do that," he said. "I think, in an ideal world, we would have liked 60 minutes of free parking. "We are currently going through a review of the Commercial Road parking situation," said Cllr Sumner.
