The conversation, dubbed Beyond Vision 2030, is intended to help shape a new long-term development framework. President Ruto announced the consultations in a national address last month, arguing that the country had reached a point where it needed to rethink its long-term direction. Vision 2030 was launched in 2008 under President Mwai Kibaki with the goal of turning Kenya into a globally competitive and prosperous nation. President Ruto acknowledged this in his July address, noting that Kenya had not reached its target of becoming an upper-middle-income economy by 2030. Whether Beyond Vision 2030 becomes another government blueprint or a genuinely shared national project will ultimately depend on what happens after the speeches and consultations end.
