A 40-year-old construction worker drowned in a borehole in Kitui Central Sub-County on Tuesday evening. The incident was reported to Kitui Police Station at about 5.40pm on August 11, 2026. They sought assistance from the county fire brigade, whose team used equipment to retrieve Mutinda’s body from the borehole. The scene was processed by police before the body was moved to the Kitui County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death. Police have launched efforts to trace and rearrest the escaped suspect.
