Westmorland and Furness Council's consultations on Applethwaite Green in Windermere and Grisedale Croft in Alston close at midnight on August 19.
The council says it is reviewing both Applethwaite Green and Grisedale Croft because the residential care homes, which are more than 50 years old, would require substantial remodelling and investment to meet modern care standards in the future.
Nikkie Phipps, director of care services at Westmorland and Furness Council, said: "Considering the future of care homes is never easy.
"We have been listening carefully to what everyone has been saying, whether at in-person events or in more than 300 consultation responses received so far via the consultation survey or comments directly by email.
A final decision on the future of the two care homes is expected in the weeks that follow.
