‘The Kids Are Alright’: Even at his most restrained, Keith Moon is a drumming animalBoth on and off the stage, it’s regularly agreed upon that there haven’t been many more animalistic drummers in history than Keith Moon, a man who not so quietly made The Who one of the most electrifying rock bands in the world.
With his limbs seemingly frequently possessed by some external high power, flailing all over the place yet still managing to keep time with his frantic attitude, it was his unconventional style that gave the band an additional flair that many of their contemporaries didn’t have.
Of course, being so haywire and hard to predict comes with its own downsides, and while Moon may have been surprisingly good at keeping time, he could only really do it on his own terms.
On top of this, his personal battles with substance use and addiction also didn’t help the situation, making him even more prone to being erratic in his playing style.
But could any of them pull out a performance as loose yet as inspired as Moon could on even the most innocuous and unraucous track?
