Could Chocolate Smell Make Your Workout Better?
[]
Knowridge Science Report
In a new experiment, young men who smelled dark chocolate during a leg workout completed more repetitions than men exposed to an odorless control.
The research comes from scientists at the University of Malaya and explores an unusual connection between smell, hunger and exercise.
One was dark chocolate with 90% cocoa, another was milk chocolate with 60% cocoa, and the third was water, which served as the comparison condition.
The milk chocolate aroma was rated as more pleasant.
Milk chocolate may work differently because its sweeter smell is strongly associated with pleasure and reward.
