The Speldiburn Community Hub is one of the projects set to benefit from the funding. The Scottish government’s latest £3m tranche of islands programme funding includes awards to Mid Yell Development Trust, the Speldiburn Community Hub and UHI Shetland’s hairdressing training salon at the Scalloway campus. The Mid Yell Development Trust will receive £156,496 to create a new pier amenity building as a “hub” for the community. Mid Yell Development Company (MYDC) lodged plans earlier this year for a new building, which includes toilets, storage space, and 14 solar panels on its roof. The Speldiburn Community Hub in Bressay will receive £77,150 BDL to support its plans to improve the building with new studio spaces, a new entrance and more.
