McClures, based in Windermere, unveiled the 19-tonne Renault E-Tech vehicle as part of its efforts to reduce carbon emissions and environmental impact across the Lake District and surrounding areas. Ben McClure, sales director at McClures, said: "Protecting the environment is especially important in a region like the Lake District. "The Vertellus EV Discovery Programme has given us a valuable opportunity to explore how electric transport can support our operations." To mark the launch, McClures will release a short film on August 14 showcasing the electric vehicle in action. The introduction of the electric lorry was supported by Border Trucks Carlisle, part of Diamond Trucks.
