Cambridgeshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Darryl Preston, secured £599,000 from the Home Office to continue the county’s Serious Violence Reduction Programme.
This funding will enable early intervention and prevention initiatives, including youth diversion schemes, mentoring, and after-school programmes in communities identified as high-risk for violence.
"We have come a long way since the Serious Violence Duty came into effect, responding as a united force to the complex causes of violence, challenging risk-taking behaviour at the onset and increasing positive pathways away from offending."
He emphasised the collective impact of the Serious Violence Duty, which came into effect in 2023 and requires collaboration between agencies to proactively prevent violence and address the root causes.
Latest funding will enable another year of evidence-based programmes, including after-school diversion activities across all Community Safety Partnership areas.
