The country became both an energy producer and an important transit route for the wider Caspian region. Between these directions are the Caspian Sea and Azerbaijan itself. Electricity generated at wind and solar plants in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan could travel across the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan. There it could be combined with Azerbaijan’s own solar, wind and hydropower generation.
