The US Federal Bureau of Investigation has found a North Korean IT worker working remotely for a US federal agency, in another case highlighting the growing reach of Pyongyang’s overseas IT worker scheme. Hemmen said the FBI had identified a North Korean remote IT worker working for the federal government the previous week. On July 31, the countries and other partners issued a joint alert warning that North Korean IT workers pose risks to governments, businesses and individuals. Last year, a Maryland man was sentenced to 15 months in prison for helping a North Korean national in China obtain software development contracts, including work connected to the Federal Aviation Administration. US officials have also warned that North Korean IT workers are increasingly using artificial intelligence to create convincing resumes and identity documents and to assist with job interviews and remote work.
